FINDING HOME BOOK COVER DESIGN
To give a little insight on the book, Finding Home is the first book of the Finding series which Jordan came up with shortly after reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The book takes place in a modern, underground Japan, following a young hacker who wants nothing more than to live through the onslaught of gang violence directed toward her. Many twists and turns are in store for her as well as an ending she never saw coming.
Jordan wrote her first book, Finding Home, during NaNoWriMo 2013 and had it published after winning the 50,000-word contest. Due to not having the funds to have a design created, Jordan utilized a stock photo and MS Paint in order to create a cover. About a year and a half later, I asked Jordan if I could use her book for a class project as I was sure that I would be able to do the book justice although I was still learning.
After meeting with Jordan, I came to the conclusion I wanted to keep some traditional elements from Japan in the design while keeping with the dark, cyberpunk feel of the book. Over the last couple of years, there have been several covers that I have created for this book however, they have never felt complete.
Now looking back, I don't think I knew how to accomplish the vision I had in my head and that is why I struggled with this project so much. Thankfully, I never gave up on this project and continued to put an effort forward to create something that not only I'd be proud of but that my sister would love for years to come. So finally after countless hours, versions, and many tutorials the final version of this book cover came to fruition.
